Banning plastic grocery bags in Everett is now on the table — at least for discussion — after Council President Ron Gipson asked the city’s administration Wednesday night to bring back more information on the topic. He said his daughter asked him to bring up the matter.
Councilman Paul Roberts added he wanted to make sure the grocery industry’s point of view was a part of that discussion. Jackie Minchew, a former candidate for City Council and local activist, jumped out of his chair to tell the council that many people he knows were already planning to bring that issue forward.
It’s not clear at this point how just introduced legislation to ban the bags at the state level might affect a city ban, if local leaders decide it is a good idea.
