FREELAND — Island County deputies arrested a Freeland man Friday on suspicion he killed his mother, authorities said.
Just before 11 a.m. Friday, a man in the 5500 block of Cameron Road told authorities he wanted to report a crime he reportedly committed. Minutes later, deputies arrived to find the man, 32, had “what appeared to be dried blood on his hands and blood stains on his pants,” according to the Island County Sheriff’s Office.
The man reportedly told deputies his mother was dead and described how he assaulted her and where he placed the weapons. A deputy responded to the family home and found a woman unresponsive on the floor, according to the sheriff’s office.
The deputy called for an emergency medical response and began a medical assessment, when he found multiple cuts to the woman’s chest, according to police.
Deputies took the man into custody booked him into the Island County Jail for investigation of second-degree murder. The man was held Saturday with bail set at $1 million, jail records show.
Criminal charges were expected to be filed early next week, according to the sheriff’s office.
The deceased hadn’t been identified Saturday. The sheriff’s office was set to provide additional information Monday afternoon.
