MARYSVILLE — A jackknifed truck and semitrailer caused long delays for drivers headed south on I-5 Tuesday afternoon, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The wreck blocked all lanes of southbound traffic shortly before 1:30 p.m. on I-5 near Ebey Slough, the department reported. All lanes were open by 3 p.m., but the backup stretched for miles.
No injuries were reported, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Everett: Police seek
man in luring attempt
The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office has released a sketch of a man who reportedly tried to lure two teenage girls into his car Monday.
The first attempt happened about 2:20 p.m. in the 11800 block of Freeway Place. The man drove up to a 15-year-old girl and offered her marijuana. When she refused, he demanded she get inside his truck, according Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen.
When that failed, the man drove two blocks to the 12200 block of Eighth Drive SE, where he approached another 15-year-old girl and demanded that she get inside his vehicle, Jorgensen said.
The girl then received a call on her cellphone from the first girl, a friend, who warned her about the man, Jorgensen said.
"When he knew what was going, on he sped off," she said.
The man has curly hair and is fairly young. He was wearing a baseball cap and drove a small, white pickup with no license plates.
Anyone with information is asked to call 425-388-3845.
Fire District 1 retains
acting fire chief Widdis
Ed Widdis will remain acting fire chief for Snohomish County Fire District 1 through Sept. 26.
Widdis was named interim chief after commissioners fired Jack McArthur last year.
McArthur, who had served as chief since 2000, was terminated after the board learned that he’d had an intimate relationship with an attorney hired to represent the district.
Widdis was serving as assistant chief and has been with the department for more than 20 years.
With several issues facing commissioners during recent months, including a proposal to merge with District 7 and contract negotiations with Mountlake Terrace, the search for a chief was put on hold, according to district spokeswoman Leslie Hynes.
It isn’t clear when a new chief will be selected.
District 1 serves more than 150,000 residents in south Snohomish County, including Mountlake Terrace and Brier.
