MILL CREEK – About 100 Jackson High School students followed through with plans to walk out of class Wednesday morning in protest of scheduling changes that are in store for the coming school year.
Some students are upset, believing they were left out of the process that will change the school’s format from four classes per semester to six year-long classes. The students walked out of classes around 9 a.m. and milled around for about an hour before returning to class, Everett School District spokeswoman Gay Campbell said.
The absences from class will be unexcused and “the school will decide what it does about that,” Campbell added.
School district officials are holding a meeting at 7 tonight at the school to explain the scheduling changes. Some students are organizing another protest that is scheduled for the hour before tonight’s official meeting beings.
