OLYMPIA — State shellfish managers have approved razor clam digs this week at Long Beach and Copalis Beach.
The digs were planned after marine toxin tests found the clams on those two beaches are safe to eat. All other Washington beaches remain closed to recreational razor clam digging
The digs at both beaches will happen at the evening tides. A two-day opening was scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Copalis. An eight-day dig began on Thursday at Long Beach.
Razor clam digging will be closed on Washington’s other coastal beaches until domoic acid levels drop below the threshold — 20 parts per million — set by state public health officials.
Under state law, diggers can take 15 razor clams per day and are required to keep the first 15 they dig.
