Snohomish County’s Cathcart property on Highway 9 might be remade into a job center and housing complex, County Executive Aaron Reardon announced Tuesday.
Reardon released his proposal for the property to kick start community discussions over what should happen with the land.
The property, about 600 acres, was bought decades ago. It includes a capped landfill and an area that was prepared for a landfill but never used.
Much of the land is vacant and includes wetlands.
The county owes tens of millions of dollars on the property and is paying interest on a loan while the County Council debates what to do.
Reardon said the county could lease some of the land for office buildings and sell some of the land for housing to pay off the debt on the property.
The County Council has final say over the proposal and is included in discussions planned this spring and summer.
