SPOKANE — A judge is scheduled to decide whether the process to recall Spokane Mayor David Condon can proceed.
Judge Blaine Gibson from Yakima is hearing the case Tuesday afternoon in Spokane County Superior Court.
KREM-TV reported that if the judge allows the recall to continue, the mayor has 15 days to appeal the decision to the state Supreme Court. If no appeal is filed, recall proponents can start collecting the 12,355 signatures needed to put the decision to voters.
The recall statement was filed by David Green, an accountant, and was based on controversies that have followed the forced resignation of former Police Chief Frank Straub.
Recall proponents say Condon withheld the release of documents related to the sacking of Straub until after November’s election. They also say there was a flawed investigation of former police spokeswoman Monique Cotton’s complaint that Straub sexually harassed her.
Condon has fought the recall effort.
