JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) [—] One state senator has suggested having the Legislature convene in Anchorage instead of Juneau. Now, Juneau lawmakers say the governor’s cabinet members should live in the capital city.
KTOO reports that Sen. Dennis Egan and Reps. Cathy Munoz and Sam Kito III have sent a letter to Gov. Bill Walker expressing concern that only two of the 14 state commissioners have committed to living in Juneau.
Education Commissioner Mike Hanley lives in Juneau year-round, and Fish and Game Commissioner Sam Cotten says he will live in Juneau during the legislative session.
Walker and Lt. Gov. Byron Mallott both live in Juneau, and Egan says government works better when everyone is in the same city.
The governor plans to respond by letter Wednesday to the Juneau delegation.
