MARYSVILLE — Thanks to the snow, Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies had no trouble Friday finding a 31-year-old Granite Falls man who police said fled on foot after crashing his pickup.
"He ran through snow and we just followed the footsteps," sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen said. "He made it very easy for us."
Deputies were investigating a traffic accident in the 9900 block of 84th Street NE when one deputy, preparing to place flares on the road, saw a red Mazda pickup speeding toward him over a hill, she said. The driver appeared to tap his brakes when he saw the deputy, but the pickup crashed into a parked vehicle, then into a ditch, she said.
The driver got out and ran into a snow-covered field, leaving a trail of footprints, which the deputy followed. The suspect was captured and checked at Providence Everett Medical Center’s Colby Campus before he was booked into the Snohomish County Jail.
The man had gotten out of jail on Thursday, and deputies found methamphetamine in his possession, she said. And to top it off, deputies discovered the pickup had been stolen from Arlington.
The suspect was booked on investigation of first-degree possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and driving while his license was suspended.
"He obviously had a bad week," Jorgensen said.
