KENT — A Kent police spokesman says a car backing out of a driveway fatally injured a 14-month-old boy who had apparently escaped from his home unnoticed and made his way to a neighbor’s property.
Lt. Pat Lowery said the unidentified child was struck Wednesday evening and died while medics were preparing to fly him to nearby Seattle.
Lowery says the death appears to be “a true accident.” He says the vehicle was driven by an 18-year-old woman who said she didn’t see the child before she started backing up. Lowery says there is no indication the driver was impaired or distracted.
