EDMONDS — Two children hit by a car last week in Edmonds have been released from the hospital to continue recovering at home.
Just after 3 p.m. on April 22, four family members were crossing 220th Street SW and 88th Avenue W in a marked crosswalk when a woman crashed into two of them, a 14-year-old girl and two-year-old boy, according to a news release from Edmonds police. The children were taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The driver, 61, had picked up a relative from a nearby school before the crash. Edmonds police believe she was distracted by her family member. She was reportedly driving at or below the posted 30 mph speed limit and wasn’t under the influence of drugs or alcohol. She’ll be cited for second-degree negligent driving, a misdemeanor, according to police. The infraction carries a potential $553 fine.
The injured kids were released from local hospitals over the weekend, according to police. The toddler was recovering from a concussion and internal bruising. The teen suffered significant bruising.
The road was closed for about four hours.
