King County Jail inmate dies; 2nd death in 3 days

SEATTLE — King County corrections officials say a 31-year-old inmate at the county jail in downtown Seattle died after having an apparent seizure.

Capt. Troy Bacon said Tuesday that jail and medical staff tried to help the inmate late Monday afternoon. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 5 p.m. Monday.

The Seattle man was not immediately identified. He was booked into jail Sunday after being arrested for investigation of theft and violating the terms of his state Department of Corrections supervision. The King County medical examiner’s office will determine the cause of death.

A 27-year-old King County jail inmate was found dead in his single-person cell last Friday evening at the regional justice center in Kent. The Burien man was booked into jail April 28. The cause of death is under investigation.

The Spokane County medical examiner’s office said a 46-year-old Spokane County Jail inmate found hanging by a sheet around his neck Monday died by suicide.
