BREMERTON – The senior enlisted man at Naval Base Kitsap was arrested Friday for investigation of attempted child rape, police said.
Police alleged that Command Master Chief Edward E. Scott had been communicating over the Internet with whom he thought was a woman with 12-year-old twins, a boy and girl, but in reality was an undercover agent.
The chats were ”sexually explicit” and graphic in nature, Bremerton police Sgt. Kevin Crane said.
A meeting was arranged for Friday at a Bremerton hotel, where Scott thought he would be meeting the woman, police said. He was arrested and booked into Kitsap County Jail for investigation of second-degree attempted rape of a child and communication with a minor for immoral purposes. Bail was initially set at $500,000.
Police on Friday had requested a warrant to search Scott’s Silverdale residence.
Scott joined the Navy in 1982, with tours in Hawaii, Guam, Whidbey Island and San Diego.
He also served as command master chief of the USS Camden and the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group. The USS Abraham Lincoln is based in Everett.
Navy Region Northwest spokesman Chris Haley said Navy officials were referring questions to Bremerton police.
A call to Naval Base Kitsap spokesman Tom Danaher was not immediately returned Friday.
