PORT ORCHARD — A Kitsap County sheriff’s spokesman says a probe that began with the discovery of a foot in a hiking boot, and then more human bones, is now classified as a homicide investigation.
Spokesman Scott Wilson says detectives found something Wednesday evening while excavating that led them to conclude a homicide had been committed at the Port Orchard site. Wilson refused to say what was found.
The King County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed the bones found at the site are human. The age and gender of the bones have not been determined.
The bones were found on undeveloped land off Harold Drive. Last Saturday, nearby construction crews alerted authorities to their find — a boot with a severed foot inside.
More bones were found Wednesday. Wilson tells the Kitsap Sun that detectives are operating on the assumption that “if there’s one body, there could be another.”
