SEATTLE — The North Kitsap Fire and Rescue has reached a settlement with the family of a 48-year-old man who died in a 2014 collision with a fire truck.
A King County jury in May had awarded $9.5 million to the family of Jason Foster, unanimously finding that the motor scooter driver had not been negligent during the wreck.
The Kitsap Sun reported that the fire district last week withdrew its appeal of the jury’s finding that it was at fault and settled with the family for an undisclosed amount.
Chief Dan Smith says the agreement was for less than the $9.5 million the jury awarded. The district’s insurance will pay the agreed amount.
The jury had found the fire district and the driver, former firefighter intern Scott Sommers, were at fault. Smith says their appeal would have asked for reconsideration of the share of the blame, not the verdict.
