LAKE STEVENS — People will get a chance this week to meet with the final three candidates who are vying for the top spot in the Lake Stevens School District.
The district is hosting community forums with each of the three finalists for the superintendent job — Dave Burgess, Tim Culver and Steve Webb.
Webb goes Wednesday, Culver on Thursday and Burgess on Friday.
Each finalist will take part in two public meetings each day. The first is at 1 p.m. for a lunch with community and business leaders, while the second is a public forum from 5 to 6 p.m.
During the day, the finalists also will meet with students, teachers and administrators.
The district is looking to replace Joe Ghaffari, who is retiring July 1 after 13 years in the post. The new superintendent will be only the fifth in the district’s nearly 50-year history.
All three finalists have local connections, but two are looking to return from out of state.
Webb has worked in Lake Stevens for eight years, starting as principal at Lake Stevens Middle School in 1996 before moving into the district office in 1999. He is now an assistant superintendent.
Previously, Webb had been an assistant principal for five years at schools in the Port Townsend and Peninsula school districts. Before that he had been a teacher in Sedro-Woolley and Camas, near the Oregon border.
Culver has served as superintendent of the Sun Prairie Area School District in Wisconsin, after leaving the Marysville School District in 1998.
In Marysville, he was an assistant superintendent for seven years following six years as assistant principal and principal. Before that, he was a middle school counselor in the Everett School District for six years.
Burgess was superintendent of the Three Rivers School District in Grants Pass, Ore., for two years after having served as a deputy superintendent in Lake Stevens for five years.
Before that, he was principal at Lake Stevens High School for three years. Burgess had been a teacher for 20 years before becoming a high school assistant principal in Bellingham.
