LAKE STEVENS — A bond to pay for a new Lake Stevens Library still needs 768 more ballots to be counted in order to pass.
As of Friday evening, 7,696 ballots had been counted in Lake Stevens and 66 percent of those voters were in favor of the $17 million bond to build a library on Chapel Hill. However, bond measures also need a voter turnout equivalent to at least 40 percent of the most recent election, in this case the November presidential election. For Lake Stevens, that means 8,464 ballots would need to be counted.
Two other measures from the Feb. 14 special election were passing in Friday’s tally. Voters in the Stanwood-Camano School District were on their way to approving a $147.5 million bond for a new high school and Granite Falls voters were leaning toward a $13.7 million bond to overhaul the middle school, add a high school grandstand and improve security.
The election results should be finalized next week.
