A 19-year-old man died Tuesday in a Seattle hospital about 24 hours after he lost control of the car he was driving and collided with a pickup truck on a rural two-lane highway.
Robert Neichin of Lake Stevens was taken to Harborview Medical Center after fire crews sliced the top off his 1997 Geo Prizm to rescue him. Neichin died at the hospital about 4 p.m. Tuesday, said trooper Kirk Rudeen, a spokesman for Washington State Patrol.
Neichin’s family members were at the hospital when he died, a hospital spokeswoman said. The family could not be reached for comment. Details on Neichin’s injuries were not released Tuesday.
A 16-year-old girl who was riding with Neichin and Seth Michael Labrow, a 21-year-old man who was driving the 1991 Nissan pickup that collided with Neichin’s vehicle, were still at Harborview Medical Center, police and hospital spokesmen said.
Police said Neichin was driving west on Highway 522 near Monroe just before 3 p.m. when he lost control of his vehicle, hit a guardrail and skidded into the eastbound lane, where it struck the Nissan pickup driven by Labrow.
A third vehicle, a Ford F250 driven by Phillip Cardwell, 42, of Granite Falls, was driving east behind the Nissan pickup and struck the wreckage, police said. Cardwell was not injured.
