LAKE STEVENS — Police didn’t chase a wanted man in Everett, but he fled from them nonetheless, crashed his car on Highway 526 and damaged a Department of Transportation traffic camera.
The Lake Stevens man, 24, had drug-related warrants out for his arrest when officers walked up to him around 6 p.m. Wednesday at a Shell station in the 8400 block of Broadway. He peeled out in a Saturn L200 and sped south on Broadway, sending smoke into the air from the tires, according to police reports filed in court.
Officers went back on regular patrol. They were stopped at a red light at Highway 526 and Evergreen Way, when the man ran in front of a police cruiser. He was arrested. Police found he had crashed the Saturn — containing 20 grams of suspected heroin, a knife with heroin residue, a digital scale and a stolen handgun — into a nearby traffic camera. The car landed on its roof.
The man was arrested for investigation of seven felonies and a slew of warrants. Officers took him to a local hospital so he could be cleared to be booked into jail.
