LAKE STEVENS — A Hollywood star who helped raise money for a new teen center at the Boys &Girls Club here made an appearance at its ribbon cutting Wednesday.
The Dan Pratt Memorial Teen Center, named for actor Chris Pratt’s father, has been under construction since late last year. Fundraising for the project peaked in 2016 when Chris Pratt held a raffle, offering a grand prize trip to meet him on a movie set. Combined with local support before, during and after the raffle, enough money was raised to build a teen center twice the size of what the club originally planned.
While the ribbon cutting was a private event, the Boys &Girls Club plans to have a community celebration in September for the teen center.
This will be the first school year teens in Lake Stevens have had their own space at the club.
Pratt, who grew up in Lake Stevens, previously told The Daily Herald that he hopes the center will be a place for kids to explore their creativity and stay out of trouble.
He’s proud to honor his father, a tough, hard-working man who he described as a “pillar of the community.”
