LAKE STEVENS — A toddler was hospitalized Monday night after falling out a window in Lake Stevens.
The boy, 2, fell about 14 feet after pushing out a window screen at a home in the 700 block of S. Davies Road, said Matt Bernethy, a battalion chief with Snohomish County Fire District 8 in Lake Stevens. The boy landed on grass. His injuries did not appear life-threatening.
The boy fell around 1 p.m. Monday.
A similar fall took place in Everett the same afternoon. A 2-year-old boy there fell four stories from a window and also was hospitalized with injuries that weren’t believed to be life-threatening.
Falls are the leading cause of unintentional injury to children, said Alison Caton, a public educator with the fire district. Children under 4 are especially at risk.
Parents can help prevent falls by installing stair gates and moving furniture away from windows, she said.
Window locks are recommended, because children can fall through screens. Windows should never be open more than five inches.
