LAKEWOOD — Lakewood police officers shot and wounded a suspect following an armed standoff with a SWAT team at an apartment complex that lasted for hours.
Police responded at noon Sunday to a report that a man featured on “Washington’s Most Wanted” was inside an apartment. The man’s grandfather told officers that he was not home.
Authorities identified the man Monday as Devin Konecny. He was wanted on three outstanding felony warrants: two for failing to register as a sex offender, and the third for escaping from community custody.
Lt. Chris Lawler, a police spokesman, said he didn’t know if Konecny had an attorney who could speak on his behalf.
Officers went inside the apartment to look for him, and Konecny fired at them, authorities said. They backed out and called a SWAT team.
Konecny barricaded himself inside and refused to come out, police say.
After hours of negotiations, Konecny is accused of firing two shots at officers, who returned fire and wounded him. He was taken into custody around 7 p.m.
Konecny was being treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening wounds. He’ll be booked into jail once he’s released. A woman who was with Konecny also was arrested.
