OLYMPIA — A Republican lawmaker from eastern Washington is proposing the Legislature take a break of 10 days in the middle of the session to go back home.
Sen. Bob Morton of Orient said he wants legislators to have time at home to report to constituents about what the Legislature is working on.
According to the state constitution, lawmakers have to convene in Olympia for 105 days on odd-numbered years and for 60 days on even-numbered years.
Morton has introduced a bill that would ask for a constitutional amendment that would allow lawmakers to go home after each chamber is done introducing bills. But he says that legislative leaders can also order a break.
He said that people are anxious about the state of the economy and he wants lawmakers to hear their concerns.
