MARYSVILLE — Parents of children in the Marysville School District will have the chance to ask questions at the annual information fair.
The information fair and kindergarten registration kickoff event is scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the cafeteria at Totem Middle School.
The district held the first information fair in February 2007 to give parents the opportunity to talk with staff at their child’s school and get information about school programs, said Sibyl Martin, administrative assistant to the assistant superintendent. The event also includes kindergarten registration and representatives from the Marysville Library, Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program, Marysville Parks and Recreation, Parent Teacher Student Associations and the Marysville YMCA.
“The idea is to have a one-stop shopping event,” Martin said. “It’s all in one big room, so there’s a lot of energy.”
Parents of fourth- and fifth-grade students can review human growth and development and HIV curriculum videos at 9 and 10 a.m. during the information fair. Kindergartners and their parents can also tour a school bus with Rudy the Raccoon. The parents of children who will be entering kindergarten in the fall need to bring their child’s birth certificate and health and immunization records to register at the event. Kindergarten registration is set to begin on Monday at the district’s elementary schools.
Registration happens around the same time every year so the district can get an idea of how many kindergartners will enroll for the following school year, Martin said. Last year, more than 300 people attended the fair and about 140 kindergartners were enrolled.
