When Link light rail stations in Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace open in 2023, they will need names — really boring names.
Sound Transit has an online survey to take the public’s pulse on its top options. For the station at the Lynnwood Transit Center, the finalists are “Lynnwood” or “Lynnwood Transit Center.” For the station at the Mountlake Terrace Transit Center, they’re “Ballinger” or “Mountlake Terrace.”
These and the name options for two Shoreline stations were culled from over 650 suggestions that came during open houses and an online survey last fall.
Vote for your favorites — or write in your own suggestions — at http://tinyurl.com/LLEsurvey. The deadline is April 5.
The goal is not creativity so much as knowing where you are when you look out a train window.
There are several criteria for station names. Names should reflect the nature of the environment, such as street names or landmarks. They also need to be brief (no more than 30 characters), avoid commercial references, and avoid names similar to other facilities.
Keep in mind: Sound Transit’s long-term plans pencil in a second Mountlake Terrace station at 220th Street SW.
The Sound Transit Board will make the final decisions this spring or summer.
