CAMAS — The Coast Guard said a light sheen has been spotted around a derelict 430-foot vessel aground on the northern bank of the Columbia River near Camas.
The Coast Guard and Washington state Department of Ecology sent pollution response teams to check for possible pollution and determine the condition of the vessel. It was reported aground on Thursday.
Lt. j.g. Charles Taylor said the area around the boat will be cordoned off with a boom.
The Coast Guard said an inspection by Global Diving and Salvage found a minor amount of oil onboard. It will be removed.
The cause of the grounding is under investigation but the vessel does not pose a navigation hazard. Vancouver, Wash., residents said the Davy Crockett has been rusting in the area for years.
