House Democrats today chose Rep. Kelli Linville, D-Bellingham, as the new chairwoman of the House Appropriations Committee. She will succeed Rep. Helen Sommers, the panel’s longtime leader who is retiring from the Legislature this year.
Rep. Hans Dunshee, D-Snohomish, who had been competing for the position, was chosen by his colleagues to be chairman of the Capital Budget Committee. Dunshee held that position before being named last year as vice chairman of the Appropriations Caucus.
The caucus met this morning to receive recommendations for the various chairmanships from its Committee on Committees. They finished voting around 1 p.m.
