Everett woman dies of burns following fire

EVERETT – An Everett woman badly burned in a house fire Monday afternoon has died, police said.

Witnesses saw the woman run out of a townhouse complex on 124th Street SE in a ball of flame. She was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Police did not release the woman’s name and the King County Medical Examiner’s Office said an investigation into the woman’s death is under investigation.

Investigators said the blaze caused about $300,000 damage to four adjacent townhouse units, Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.

They ruled the cause of the fire arson, she said. Investigators believe this is an isolated incident and that there is no threat to the neighborhood.

A man who lived in the building also was injured and treated at Harborview, she said. His condition was not known. A young girl who was in the house at the time of the fire was unharmed.

The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office is still investigating with assistance from the sheriff’s department, Hover said. The sheriff’s office is called on anytime people are seriously injured in a fire.

The fire displaced 10 people and the Red Cross is providing assistance.

The 17-year-old driver of the truck was not hurt, the report said. Police are investigating whether speed was a factor in the crash.
