Granite Falls man arrested after car chase
SNOHOMISH – A 25-year-old Granite Falls man was in custody Friday after an afternoon car chase that sped from Lake Stevens into downtown Snohomish, police said.
A Honda Prelude was reported stolen Friday morning, Lake Stevens Police Chief Randy Celori said.
About 3 p.m., a relative saw the car heading south on Highway 9. The relative called 911 and followed the stolen car.
The relative lost sight of the car, Celori said. That’s when Snohomish police spotted it driving through the city, he said.
The driver crashed into a van, sending the van’s driver to the hospital with minor injuries. Then the driver crashed into a Snohomish police car before the car could go any farther, Celori said.
Snohomish: Suspect arrested in fake 911 call
Snohomish County sheriff’s detectives have arrested a man who is believed to be responsible for a fake hostage call to 911 that led to Highway 9 being shut down for two hours earlier this month.
The suspect, a 31-year-old Federal Way man, was picked up at a restaurant in Federal Way on Thursday after detectives scoured through numerous leads from as far away as California, sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.
Investigators were able to find the man through Internet chat rooms and electronic surveillance, Hover said.
The suspect reportedly called 911 about 2:14 a.m. Jan. 2 and said he was armed with a rifle, had a hostage and would kill any police officer who came near, Hover said. About 35 deputies, including the SWAT team, raced to a house in the 15500 block of Highway 9. The people inside the house were unaware of the call or the bogus threat.
“In addition to being a waste of taxpayers’ resources and dollars, this hoax posed a real threat to the innocent people inside the house as well as to the deputies called to respond,” Hover said.
The suspect faces numerous charges, including phone harassment, false reporting and reckless endangerment.
Detectives continue to investigate the case and assist other agencies with similar cases to determine whether they are connected to the suspect. Additional arrests could be made, Hover said.
Tulalip: Man suspected of driving through fence
Tulalip Tribal police arrested a man who reportedly crashed through the gate at Murphy’s Lake Veteran’s Park on Friday while trying to repossess a storage container on the other side of the park.
The man told police he was trying to pick up the storage container from a home in the Marysville West neighborhood. He drove through the fence and knocked it down and left ruts in the grass at the park, Tulalip Sgt. Dave Lott said.
The park is located in the 2300 block of Old Tulalip Road.
The people who were renting the storage container told police they’d asked the company to retrieve the container in September but never heard back from the business, Lot said.
The suspect was arrested for investigation of criminal trespass and malicious mischief.
