GRANITE FALLS — A paramedic will face off against a fire captain for a post on the Snohomish County Fire District 17 board of commissioners. Rebecca Dane, 37, a paramedic serving in Skagit County, is running against Kevin Hayes, 49, a fire captain at Boeing, for a six-year term on the three-person board.
District 17 serves about 10,000 people in about 40 square miles centered around Granite Falls. The district spends about $1.5 million annually, the bulk of which goes to pay 10 full-time and 20 part-time firefighters at two stations.
