The man, 81, was outside the crosswalk about 9:20 p.m. when he was hit by a northbound car, according to the State Patrol.

Darrington: Injured hiker airlifted off peak

A Snohomish County sheriff’s search and rescue crew airlifted an injured hiker from Sloan Peak Saturday.

The Marysville man, 30, was hiking with friends when he was struck and partially covered by falling rocks, according to the sheriff’s office. His hiking companions removed the rocks from the man, who had pelvis and head injuries.

Rescuers found the team at 6,200 feet on Sloan Peak, south of Darrington. A Lake Stevens medic riding with the sheriff’s helicopter crew assisted the injured hiker, who was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

A member of the search-and-rescue crew hurt his ankle during the response. The rescue team spent the night on the mountain because of the steep and rocky terrain. The injured rescuer was airlifted from the mountain Sunday. He was treated and released at an Everett hospital.

McGrath was apparently crossing the road in the 18900 block of Highway 99 about 2:30 a.m. when he was hit by the van driven by a Lynnwood man.

The Marysville Police Department will hold a public meeting about a sex offender moving into the 800 block of State Avenue.

Gary L. Davis, 45, was convicted of second-degree rape in 1987 and convicted five years later of two counts of communicating with a minor for immoral purposes.

Davis is a Level 2 offender, indicating that police officials believe he has a moderate risk to commit another sex offense.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Marysville Public Safety Building, 1635 Grove St.
