MARYSVILLE – The Washington State Patrol arrested 46 suspected drunken drivers in Snohomish County on Friday through Sunday, the start of the busy July 4 holiday week.
During a typical weekend, troopers will arrest half that amount, said trooper Kirk Rudeen, a patrol spokesman.
Troopers will continue drunken driving patrols for the remainder of the holiday week, he said.
Lynnwood: Fire burns home, no one hurt
No one was injured as a fire caused about $80,000 damage to a house near Lynnwood on Monday evening.
The fire at the home in the 3400 block of 148th Street SW is believed to have been caused by food left unattended on the stove, said Leslie Hynes, spokeswoman for Snohomish County Fire District 1.
A family of three who lives in the house was displaced and is being helped by the Red Cross, Hynes said.
The family was outside in their garden at about 6:30 p.m. when a neighbor told them their house was on fire, Hynes said.
Machias: Fireworks ignite small brush fire
Fireworks caused a small brush fire that threatened a barn in the Machias area before it was extinguished on Monday, a fire official said.
The fire was reported shortly before 5 p.m. in the 4700 block of Old Machias Road, said Snohomish County District 4 Battalion Chief John Hinchcliffe.
The fire burned an area about 50-by-50 feet and was quickly extinguished, Hinchcliffe said.
“They were safe and sane fireworks, they just caused a fire,” the battalion chief said. “We just want to remind everybody to be careful on this Fourth of July holiday.”
