EVERETT – Fire crews used ropes and a specially designed stretcher to rescue a man who fell into a ship’s hold Sunday night, officials said.
Everett firefighters were called about 10:09 p.m. to rescue a longshoreman at the Port of Everett, Fire Marshal Glen Martinsen said. The man apparently fell through a narrow hatch opening and dropped about 15 feet, he said.
Members of the Everett Fire Department Technical Rescue Team used rope rescue techniques to pull the man from the hold, Martinsen said.
The man was brought to shore using one of the ship’s cranes. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Edmonds: Accident sends three to hospital
Three people were hospitalized after a traffic collision Monday afternoon, police said.
Two cars were involved in a “T-bone” crash about 1:30 p.m. in the 21800 block of 76th Avenue W., Edmonds police Sgt. Don Anderson said.
The occupants of one of the cars, two elderly Edmonds residents, were taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, he said. A woman in her 80s reportedly suffered serious injuries.
The owner of the other car was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
Officers closed the road for several hours during the investigation, Anderson said.
