10 arrested for suspected drunken driving

MARYSVILLE — The Washington State Patrol arrested 10 people for suspected drunken driving on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day in Snohomish County. There were no local alcohol-related fatalities, said trooper Kirk Rudeen, a State Patrol spokesman.

Statewide, troopers made 100 drunken-driving arrests on New Year’s Eve and during the holiday weekend troopers investigated one alcohol-related traffic death, officials said.

In 2007, troopers arrested about 3,400 people on suspicion of drunken driving in Snohomish County, a new record, Rudeen said.

That’s helped reduce the number of fatalities, Rudeen said. Statewide, traffic deaths were down about 13 percent in 2007 from the previous year.

Marysville police seek carjacking suspect

Police said they are looking for a man who stole a truck early Saturday while the owner was still in it.

Sometime after midnight, a Monroe woman, 43, was warming up her truck outside her boyfriend’s home in the 5100 block of 73rd Drive NE, Marysville police Cmdr. Ralph Krusey said.

A man broke the driver’s window and got into the truck with the woman, Krusey said. There was a struggle over the woman’s purse before she escaped out the passenger door.

The man in the truck backed up, knocking the woman over, he said. Her boyfriend took her to the hospital and she is expected to recover.

The truck was found a short time later in the 3900 block of 83rd Avenue NE abandoned and set on fire, Krusey said.

The man police are looking for is described as large, about 6 feet tall, 250 pounds with brown eyes. He was wearing a ski mask with large eye holes and a mostly yellow, loose-knit sweater, Krusey said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Marysville police at 360-363-8300.

Tulalip: Teen injured in rollover accident

A 15-year-old Tulalip girl was seriously injured in a rollover automobile crash late Tuesday night, police said.

The girl was a passenger in an SUV that rolled over and smashed into a pole about 11:30 p.m. in the 11200 block of Quil Ceda Boulevard, Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.

The girl was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with head and foot injuries, Hover said. On Wednesday, she was in satisfactory condition, said Susan Gregg-Hanson, a Harborview spokeswoman.

The driver, 17, and a passenger in the back seat, 18, both of Tulalip, were not seriously injured, Hover said.

Detectives are investigating speed as a factor in the crash, she said.

Lake Stevens: Police ram suspect’s car

A man fleeing police reached speeds as high as 100 mph on Highway 9 Tuesday night before police stopped him by ramming his car, officials said.

Police tried to stop the Mountlake Terrace man, 23, just before 10 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 9 and Market Place, according to court records.

When officers tried to pull the man over, he sped off, Lake Stevens police Cmdr. Dan Lorentzen said.

Police used two sets of spike strips to try to slow the man down, court records said. When the man continued to try to drive off, police used a so-called PIT maneuver, where police ram into a fleeing vehicle, forcing it to spin out of control.

The man was taken to Providence Everett Medical Center and then cleared to be booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of possession of a stolen vehicle and attempting to elude police.

Everett: Golf carts stolen for joyride

Three golf carts were hot-wired and taken for a joyride at Legion Memorial Golf Course on Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning, police said. The carts were left on the course and one was reported to have damage, Everett police Sgt. Robert Goetz said. No damage to the course was reported to police.
