LAKE STEVENS — Snohomish County sheriff’s detective are looking for a man who tried to steal a van this morning and struggled with the owner before running away.
A woman in her late 40s was getting ready for work about 1:30 a.m. in the 1800 block of 89th Drive SE, sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.
The woman started her van and left it running unattended, Hover said.
When the woman came out of her home, she found a man trying to steal the van. The two struggled and the man started to drive away, Hover said.
The man damaged several cars before coming to a stop, she said. He ran away. A police dog was unable to track to him.
The woman was injured and taken to Providence Everett Medical Center, Hover said. Her condition was not immediately known.
The suspect is described as white, in his 20s with very short hair or a shaved head.
It’s never a good idea to leave a vehicle running unattended, Hover said. She also said the best thing to do if a crime is witnessed is to dial 911 immediately.
