MONROE — Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives have joined the investigation into a pipe bomb left on the front door of a Monroe home, officials said Tuesday.
The federal agents are working to help Monroe police, said special agent Nick Starcevic, an ATF spokesman.
Bomb experts on Sunday investigated and safely removed a pipe bomb found hanging from the front door of a home in the 15400 block of 171st Drive SE in Monroe. The home is owned by a firefighter, who recognized the device for what it was and called police.
ATF agents will examine the bomb to see if it meets guidelines to be defined as an improvised explosive device under federal guidelines, Starcevic said.
Monroe police said there were no suspects as of Monday afternoon.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact detective Spencer Robinson with the Monroe Police Department at 360-794-6300. Anonymous information may be left on the department’s tip line at 360-863-4600.
Bothell: Accident victim remains critical
A woman injured Monday afternoon in a car crash in Bothell remained in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on Tuesday, officials said.
The woman, 48, was being treated in the hospital’s intensive care unit, said Susan Gregg-Hansen, a hospital spokeswoman.
The woman, another adult and one child were injured Monday after a white Ford Mustang collided with a minivan just after 3 p.m. on a major thoroughfare in Bothell.
The woman was driving the minivan and pulled out of Third Avenue SE and on to S. 228th Street. There was a crash between the minivan and the Mustang, Bothell spokeswoman Kirsten Clemens said.
The minivan flipped over and landed atop the Mustang’s hood. Police are investigating if the Mustang was speeding.
A 13-year-old girl, a passenger in the minivan who is unrelated to the driver, was injured, but her condition was not critical, Clemens said. She was taken to Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland. The driver of the Mustang, a 19-year-old man, was also taken to Evergreen Hospital, Clemens said. Their condition was not available Tuesday.
