MUKILTEO – Snohomish County Fire District 1 added a new paramedic unit to its Lake Serene station effective Wednesday, officials said.
The additional medic should improve response times to emergency calls, said Leslie Hynes, a District 1 spokeswoman. Two additional people will be on duty daily to fill the medic position.
A fire levy passed last year paid for the new medic, she said.
Fire District 1 serves about 150,000 people in unincorporated south Snohomish County and the cities of Brier and Mountlake Terrace. The district has eight stations staffed by about 150 employees.

Police arrested two men in connection with an armed robbery at a pharmacy Tuesday night.
The pharmacist told police a man passed her a note saying that he wanted drugs or he would start shooting, Marysville police Cmdr. Ralph Krusey said. The man fled out the back door of the Albertsons in the 11400 block of State Avenue.
Witnesses helped lead police to the suspect and an accomplice. Officers found a handgun in the suspects’ vehicle, Krusey said.
A 22-year-old Edmonds man and a 27-year-old Stanwood man were booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of first-degree robbery.
