VERLOT — Two women were rescued by helicopter off Mount Pilchuck on Wednesday evening, officials said.
It’s the 13th time rescue crews have been called this season to help people stranded on the popular hiking trail, Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.
On Wednesday, the two women, 29 and 30, reached Pilchuck’s summit and got lost on the way down, she said.
Rescue crews spotted the women and sent the sheriff’s search and rescue helicopter to hoist them to safety. They weren’t injured, Hover said.
“There’s still snow up there and it’s easy to get off the trail and get lost,” she said.
People with plans to go hiking in the area should check on trail conditions with park rangers at the Verlot visitor’s center before setting out. Hikers should be prepared for winter hiking conditions.
