EVERETT — A man was seriously injured Wednesday morning when he apparently jumped off an I-5 overpass into rush-hour traffic, officials said.
The man, 65, of Montana, did not hit any cars and was not hit by traffic when he jumped off the 128th Street SE overpass into the southbound lanes about 8 a.m., Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.
Cassandra Cray saw the man fall.
“I feel traumatized. I don’t even want to drive under the bridge tomorrow,” Cray, 24, of Arlington said. “I’m just glad that I didn’t run him over.”
The man was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious head injuries. Traffic was restricted to one lane for about 30 minutes as medics treated the man.
Marysville: Fire burns fifth-wheel RV
An early morning electrical fire in a fifth-wheel trailer sent flames 25 feet in the air and caused about $25,000 damage, officials said.
The fire was reported at 3:23 a.m. in the 5200 block of 89th Street NE, said Marysville Fire District spokeswoman Stephanie Price.
The trailer was parked by a house. Firefighters used foam to extinguish the blaze, Price said.
The trailer was destroyed and the fire caused minor damage to the home and nearby power lines, she said.
The Snohomish County fire marshal and the Marysville Fire District fire marshal determined an electrical problem started the fire, Price said.
Felon wanted for escape arrested
Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies arrested a convicted felon Wednesday who was wanted for escape by state Department of Corrections officials.
Deputies surrounded a home about 11 a.m. in the 5000 block of 103rd Place NE after someone inside the house called to say the man, 31, had pointed a gun at them, sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.
The man gave himself up without incident and no one was hurt, she said.
Mill Creek: Serious crash closes highway
A serious head-on crash shut down Highway 527 for more than three hours on Wednesday.
The accident happened about 1 p.m. A southbound pickup crossed the center median planter and slammed into a northbound van, Mill Creek police spokesman Steve Winters said.
Both drivers were taken to local hospitals with serious injuries. The men were in stable condition, Winters said. A passenger in the van was treated and released.
The highway was closed between 151st Street SE and 153rd Street SE while officers collected evidence and the vehicles were towed away.
Snohomish: Car crash sends three to hospital
A three car accident on Highway 9, just north of Marsh Road, sent three people to the hospital with injuries and snarled rush hour traffic Wednesday afternoon.
The accident happened about 4:30 p.m. and closed the southbound lane of the highway for about 40 minutes and also caused the northbound lane to be closed for a time, said Snohomish County Fire District 4 Battalion Chief Mike Gatterman.
One of the cars crossed oncoming traffic and veered off the road before landing in a pumpkin patch.
None of the passengers was seriously injured, according to the Washington State Patrol. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Lake Stevens: Wrong voter guides sent to 480
The wrong voter guides were mailed to 480 Lake Stevens area voters, so Snohomish County election officials are mailing out a few pages of replacement information on City Council candidates.
County Auditor Carolyn Diepenbrock said the correct ballots were sent to the voters. The area was recently annexed by the city, and incorrect addresses were used to determine which guides should be mailed.
