STEVENS PASS — It took more than six hours on Friday to move an overturned semi-truck from U.S. 2 just west of Stevens Pass.
“It’s kind of like dealing with a beached whale,” Washington State Patrol trooper Kirk Rudeen said.
The truck, hauling fruit, was headed eastbound about 9:30 a.m. when it was hit by a pickup truck. The pickup truck driver was trying to pass the big rig when he lost control and slid into the cab of the semi-truck, Rudeen said. The pickup wedged itself into the cab and the big rig hit the snowbank and overturned, Rudeen said.
No one was hurt.
The pears and apples had to be unloaded before a tow truck could remove the semi-truck, Rudeen said.
