LYNNWOOD — Police here are on the lookout for a man with a beer gut and an undisclosed amount of cash.
The man is suspected in Wednesday’s robbery of a credit union near the Alderwood mall. The heist happened just before noon at Verity Credit Union, 18530 33rd Ave. W.
Police scoured the area but were unable to find the stout-stomached robber.
Witnesses described the bandit as a white, large-framed man, with a substantial paunch. He’s about 6 feet tall and was wearing a green and red plaid flannel shirt or coat and black workout-type pants. He also wore white tennis shoes, black sunglasses and a brown baseball cap with a gold emblem.
Anyone with information is asked to call Lynnwood detective Jerry Rittgarn at 425-744-6924 or 425-744-6900.
Motorcyclist critically injured in accident
A Mill Creek driver was arrested and a Lynnwood motorcyclist was critically injured after a crash that shut down a major thoroughfare near the Alderwood mall Wednesday.
Police are investigating whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the accident, Lynnwood police spokeswoman Shannon Sessions said.
Emergency dispatchers received calls about a reckless driver on I-5, she said. The suspect, in a light blue Ford Crown Victoria, exited the freeway at Alderwood Mall Boulevard, and witnesses told police the driver crossed the center line and struck a sport utility vehicle, Sessions said.
The SUV driver, a 31-year-old Lynnwood woman, was not hurt. Debris from that crash struck another vehicle. The suspect then collided with a 53-year-old man on a motorcycle, Sessions said.
The motorcyclist suffered a severe leg injury and other potentially life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The Mill Creek man, 59, was arrested and brought to the Lynnwood jail.
The northbound lanes of Alderwood Mall Parkway were closed for about two hours.
Granite Falls: Teen suspected in fires
A 17-year-old Granite Falls boy was arrested Wednesday for allegedly lighting fires, officials said.
The boy is not believed to be connected to the Maltby-area fires that destroyed luxury homes Monday, Granite Falls Police Chief Tony Domish said.
Police caught the boy apparently pouring gasoline and lighting a fire Tuesday morning, Domish said. Fire crews prevented the blaze from destroying that home.
The teenager also is suspected of lighting a fire on Jan. 7 that destroyed a different home, Domish said.
The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office assisted in the investigation.
The boy was booked into the Denney Juvenile Justice Center for investigation of two counts of first-degree arson.
