Local Briefly: Police seek missing Shoreline man, 79

SHORELINE — King County sheriff’s deputies are looking for an elderly Shoreline man who told his family he was going to Snohomish on Friday and hasn’t been seen since.

Hilmer D. Jager, 79, was last seen around 8:15 a.m. Friday, King County sheriff’s Sgt. John Urquhart said.

He is believed to be driving a white 1996 Buick Century with Washington state disabled plate, 72399DP.

Jager reportedly suffers from dementia, depression and congestive heart failure, Urquhart said. The man is in dire need of his medications.

On Friday morning, Jager told his family he was going to Snohomish to look for a friend’s house, said Erica Bauman, his daughter.

“He’s never gone missing before,” she said. “This is very uncharacteristic of him.”

Jager is described as white, 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighing 300 pounds with white hair and green eyes. He has white patches on both hands and uses a cane or walker to get around. He was last seen wearing a short-sleeve dress shirt, black pants and black shoes.

Anyone with information is asked to call the King County Sheriff’s Office at 206-296-3311 or 911.

The man who died Sunday morning in a car crash near Martha Lake was identified Monday as Ross Strait of Edmonds.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the 23-year-old man died of a positional asphyxia, a condition that occurs when the position of a person’s body prevents him or her from breathing.

Strait died at the scene after the car he was driving lost control and rolled on its top, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.

The vehicle was going east on 164th Street SW near Seventh Place W.

A passenger, a 22-year-old Poulsbo man, was hospitalized, Hover said.
