EVERETT — Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon Wednesday signed a contract with the Snohomish County Deputy Sheriff’s Association, the sheriff’s office union.
The contract, which covers about 250 deputies, including 30 sergeants, is good through March 31, 2010, said Christopher Schwartzen, a county spokesman.
The collective-bargaining agreement gives most deputies a 4.5 percent retroactive pay raise to April 1 and another 2.5 percent increase effective Oct. 1, he said. Another 3 percent raise will go into effect in April 2008 and April 2009.
The county will spend an additional $745,000 this year and $963,000 more in 2008, Schwartzen said. Base payroll for sheriff’s deputies in 2007 was about $15 million.
The contract also increase life-insurance amounts, he said.
Deputies were pleased the process is completed, said Deputy Adam Fortney, the association president.
“It’s great to know that the process took less time than in the past and that things are looking positive as we move forward,” he said.
Marysville: Man arrested after a chase
Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies arrested two men after a car and foot chase Wednesday, officials said.
At about 11 a.m., a deputy spotted a suspected stolen car near 67th Avenue NE and 100th Street NE, sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.
The car stopped in the 4700 block of 97th Place NE and three men bailed out and ran, she said.
Deputies used a police dog to find two of the men, she said. Both were expected to be booked into the county jail for investigation of possession of stolen property. One man also had warrants for his arrest, Hover said.
Cascade Elementary was placed in lockdown for about 20 minutes as a precaution while police looked for the men.
One of the deputies who saw the suspected stolen car got into a fender bender at the intersection of 51st Avenue NE and 100th Street NE, Hover said. The deputy did have his flashing lights on, but the other driver apparently didn’t see him. No one was injured, she said.
