MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — A woman who allegedly stole more than $250,000 from her employer over two years was charged Tuesday with one count of first-degree theft.
Karen Marie Peacey, 45, of Bothell, had been a longtime bookkeeper and office manager for Olympic Mechanical Inc., a heating, ventilation and air conditioning business in Mountlake Terrace, Kathy Jo Blake said in Snohomish County Superior Court in charging papers.
She is accused of siphoning company money in various ways in 2006 and 2007, using company credit cards for cash advances, writing checks to herself, overpaying herself and making personal purchases on credit cards in the company’s name, documents said.
Company officials told police that business has been profitable, but the profits dropped off over the last couple of years, Blake said. The company became suspicious of Peacey in August after someone told an owner that the bookkeeper had purchased jewelry with a company credit card, according to documents.
