Local Briefly: Young man dies in accident on dirt-bike track

SILVANA — A 19-year-old Snohomish County man died today after crashing his motorcycle on a dirt-bike track in the Silvana area.

The accident occurred at about 4 p.m. on the track in the 22000 block of Sather Road in the Silvana area, said Rebecca Hover, spokeswoman for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

The teen was riding motorbikes with three other young men on the private, rural property when he crashed, Hover said. He died at the scene. The three other riders were on a different part of the track and didn’t see the crash.

Investigators do not know who owns the property where the teens were riding or the circumstances surrounding the crash, Hover said. The man was wearing a helmet. His name and hometown were not immediately released.

Everett: Woman in jail for parole violation

An Everett woman who posed as a boy to sexually molest a teenage girl is back behind bars.

Lorelei J. Corpuz, 31, was arrested Wednesday for violating the conditions of her parole, officials said.

Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies arrested her for having contact with a minor, which a judge had prohibited her from doing, said Chad Lewis, a spokesman for the state Department of Corrections.

In May 2007, Corpuz pleaded guilty to third-degree child molestation. In June 2007, she was sentenced a year in jail for the sex crime.

That conviction stemmed from allegations that Corpuz passed herself off as a 17-year-old boy named Mark Villanueva and engaged in sexual activity with a teenage girl.

Corpuz met the girl in September 2005 at an area mall and she lived with the girl’s family on and off until April. The case drew international attention.

The Everett woman also pleaded guilty to first-degree theft. She is accused of writing more than $40,000 in bad checks on a closed account.

Now, she’s scheduled to have a hearing with the Department of Corrections on Aug. 4. She’s expected to stay behind bars until then, Lewis said.

She could be ordered to serve out her sentence at the violator’s unit at the Monroe Correctional Facility, he said. If she’s found guilty, her sentence also could be extended.

Pedestrian struck by car hospitalized

A man was critically injured when he was hit by a car while walking across Broadway early Sunday morning, police said.

The accident occurred around 4:30 a.m. at the intersection of Broadway and Pacific Avenue, Everett police Sgt. Robert Goetz said.

The man, who appeared to be a transient, was hit by a car that was northbound on Broadway. The man was in a crosswalk, however police believe he was crossing against the traffic light, Goetz said.

The man was taken to Providence Everett Medical Center. His condition Monday was not immediately available.

Police do believe the driver was under the influence.

Crash detectives continue to investigate the accident.

Granite Falls: Man arrested after bar fight

A man was arrested after he dislocated an off-duty Marysville firefighter’s arm when the firefighter tried to get the man to leave a Granite Falls bar.

The man, 41, of Granite Falls, was drunk and stumbling when police arrived just after 9 p.m. in the 100 block of S. Granite Avenue, according to court documents.

Bartenders told the man to leave and he allegedly refused and started swinging at patrons, the documents said. The firefighter tried to get the man to leave. In the struggle, the man dislocated the firefighter’s left arm.

The man was taken to the Snohomish County Jail where it took four corrections officers to control him, the documents said. He was booked for investigation of second-degree assault.

Lake Stevens: Man’s truck strikes girl, 4

A 4-year-old girl was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening Monday after her grandfather accidentally hit her with a pickup truck in his yard in Getchell.

The incident occurred about 4:30 p.m. at the home in the 11100 block of 131st Avenue NE, said Travis Hots, chief of the Getchell Fire Department.

The girl was playing on a dirt pile and the driver hit her as he was backing up the truck while doing yard work, Hots said.

Her grandfather took the girl inside the house and she was conscious and alert when medics arrived, the chief said. He did not know the nature of her injuries.
