The League of Women Voters of the United States has selected the League of Women Voters of Snohomish County as one of three Local League Finalists for its Strengthening Democracy award. LWVUS will announce the winner at the organization’s upcoming National Convention in Chicago on June 30.
The award category honors the grassroots efforts of LWV of Snohomish County to protect voting rights and increase voter registration and turnout.
The nomination focused on the Snohomish County League’s effort to “Spread the Vote” through a number of partnerships, marches and a monthly radio program that spotlighted key issues, people and candidates. The group also partnered with a local effort to change the city charter in Everett to a district form of representation on the city council.
