MOSES LAKE — Gov. Gary Locke told Moses Lake economic development leaders Friday he will continue to work to bring business clients to the Grant County city after Boeing chose Everett as the assembly site for its proposed new 7E7 jet.
Everett and Moses Lake had sought the assembly work, as did cities around the country.
"In his opinion, we have a lot going for us for a small rural community," Terry Brewer, executive director of the Grant County Economic Development Council, said Locke told an audience. "He indicated we were looked upon very favorably by Boeing, but in the final analysis, they felt the best choice was Everett."
Brewer said Locke met with Moses Lake and Grant County economic development and elected officials to thank them for their efforts to land the Boeing plant.
The governor promised that "state government will work hard to help us if we get another client looking at our airport," Brewer said. "He came here purposefully to brief us about the Boeing project and the efforts we all went through to try and win the project for Washington."
Locke spokesman Roger Nyhus said there were times during Boeing’s selection process that Moses Lake was at the top of its list.
Locke and Martha Choe, the state’s director of Commerce, Trade and Economic Development, told the Grant County officials they will continue to push for additional economic opportunities for the lakeside community.
