LONGVIEW — Longshoreman Lou Johnson took a comfortable lead Tuesday in a race for a Port of Longview Commission seat.
The Daily News reports his election would put a second longshoreman on the three-member commission.
The election could affect the dispute at the port between the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and owners of the new EGT grain terminal, which employs workers represented by another union.
Union leaders want port officials to support its protests.
Johnson says he’ll use common sense to build bridges, rather than burn them.
