The book that Angie Cram of Edmonds needed for an open-book quiz in her legal research class could not be found in the school bookstore.
John Hunter of Galesburg, Ill., offered his book from the quarter before. That’s how the two students at the Lynnwood campus of Central Washington University got together.
A couple of weeks after lending her the book, John called Angie.
“He was acting like it was all school related,” Angie said.
On their first date in January 2006, the couple went to The Keg restaurant near Alderwood mall. The staff had to kick them out.
“They keep the lights dimmed,” Angie said. “They had to turn on the lights to get us out.”
The couple clicked that first night.
“I knew,” Angie said. “He’s really handsome and funny, and just a sweet guy.”
Angie and John talked about their future together, what they would like to do, where they would like to travel. They found that they liked the same things and had a lot in common.
When John, a Marine reservist, went to officer candidate school for 10 weeks, after one day of his absence Angie knew she didn’t want him to be out of her sight.
“I wanted to be with him forever,” Angie said.
Angie wrote to John every day that he was gone. She mailed two letters on Mondays, one that she had written on Sunday. She took a load of classes that summer to keep busy.
“It was the worst summer of my life,” Angie said. “It made me realize that I can’t live without the guy.”
When John returned the couple talked about marriage.
Angie wasn’t expecting the proposal when it came. John had been planning for a while and proposed on their 14-month anniversary, before dinner at a Japanese steakhouse and a trip to the movies to see “Blades of Glory.”
Angela Marie Cram and John Henry Hunter plan a summer 2008 wedding.
Their parents are Bob and Sue Cram of Edmonds and Les and Julie Hunter of Galesburg.
Angie describes John as very tall and handsome, someone who likes to joke around.
“He’s a really sweet guy,” Angie said.
The couple are preparing to graduate from Central’s Lynnwood campus. John is applying for a career in law enforcement. Angie was recently hired at Boeing.
Angie is excited to spend the rest of her life with the man she calls the perfect guy.
“He’s the kind of guy every girl dreams of meeting one day,” Angie said. “He’s my best friend. What better way to spend the rest of your life?”
