Snohomish County sheriff candidate John Lovick extended his lead over Tom Greene in the race after thousands of additional ballots were counted today.
Lovick leads by 890 votes over Greene. Both candidates are waiting for more results to be posted. As of this evening, Lovick has received 44,206 votes; Greene has received 43,316.
On election night, Lovick, a retired Washington State Patrol sergeant and a state representative, held just a 560 vote lead on election night over Greene, a sheriff’s bureau chief.
At least 70,000 ballots remain to be counted. The battle to succeed Rick Bart as the next sheriff is the highest profile battle left undecided after election night, but not the closest race.
Two Edmonds City Council candidates are just 30 votes apart. Dave Orvis received 3,716 ballots and leads Strom Peterson, who has 3,686 votes.
A race for the Arlington City Council has a one-vote margin. Scott Solla leads Barbara Tolbert 1,076 to 1,075.
More results are expected each day through Friday or Saturday.
